About Night Owl Illuminations
First and foremost, Night Owl Illuminations started out as a spinoff of The Contemporary Night Owl, a web directory and blog which was initially dedicated to the world at night. Since the subject of neon and illuminated signage (among other lighting-related topics) was starting to grow by leaps and bounds over on that site, I thought it best to start a whole new blog dedicated to the subject so TCNO’s main directory wouldn’t get overcrowded!
Anyhow, Night Owl Illuminations is a blog dedicated 100% to the world of electric signage. More specifically, vintage neon and other illuminated electric signs of old. In addition to vintage stuff, I’ll delve just a little into the modern-day world of LED from time to time.
In addition, there is a section of the Neon directory dedicated to regional businesses, art galleries, and museums who specialize in neon lighting, preserve vintage neon signs, or promote it as an art form.
I will be honest and admit that I’m just a contemporary history blogger who is not employed in the signage industry. I do know a little about the basics of lighting and signage, but I intend to keep this site limited to the historical and cultural aspects of signage and not so much about the technics of the signs. However, I will elaborate about the technics a little whenever necessary and if anyone out there has any additional knowledge about the signs in that regards, you are more than welcome to share that info with us. 🙂
