Augusta Historic Theatre (Augusta, KS)

One business that deserves special mention in this directory is the Augusta Historic Theatre in Augusta, KS.

Established in 1935, the Augusta Theatre was designed with extravagance in mind. It was created in the Art-Deco style that was popular worldwide during the 1910s-1930s and was one of a few small handful of theaters worldwide to use neon illumination on both the exterior and the interior of the building! This illumination came courtesy of the Lite-Craft Neon Company of Joplin, MO. At the time, Lite-Craft was the first company in the USA to manufacture and install neon decorations to theater facades.

At the time of this writing, a huge neon marquee still adorns the front entrance of the theater.

Augusta Theatre was meant to be an exquisite movie theater that would serve the city of Augusta for many decades to come. Some eight decades on, it is still doing just that.
